During the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, as spring gave way to early summer, the weather was clear and crisp, with bright sunshine, and Limutai warmly welcomed visitors from all directions. With the heat of summer in full swing, everyone suddenly found themselves in this cool yet radiant mountain retreat, losing themselves in the fun!
From June 20 to June 22, visitors to Limutai can simply scan the QR code on-site to follow the scenic area’s WeChat account and receive a free mugwort sachet. In addition, high school and junior high school graduates of 2015 who present their admission tickets will also receive a complimentary set of Limutai scenic postcards.
At the event, many visitors were drawn to the exquisite sachets exuding the fresh, fragrant aroma of mugwort, and lines of people kept streaming in to scan the QR code and claim their own. Once they had their sachets, smiles lit up their faces, and they eagerly posed for photos amid the lush green mountains and clear waters.
Not far from the entrance, a geological marvel draws countless visitors, who are eager to try it and often linger, captivated by its allure: the “Heaven‑Ascending Rift.” This narrow fissure between two towering cliffs consists of 366 steep steps that climb straight upward, seemingly perpendicular to the ground. Many are awestruck simply by gazing up at its sheer height, narrowness, and perilous grandeur. As you ascend along the crack, the path is so precipitous and daunting that it feels like scaling the heavens—hence its alternate name, “Heavenly Path.”
If you’re still not satisfied after climbing the “Heaven‑Opening Crack,” continue ascending along the tree‑lined path to the summit, where you can look down upon the quaint mountain village at the foot of the hill, with its verdant trees and red-tiled roofs. Once you’ve taken it all in, you’ll make another discovery: the ancient Northern Qi Great Wall, dating back more than 1,400 years. Though most of the wall has crumbled, the weathered ochre‑colored stones that remain still evoke the sight of beacon fires and swirling smoke from days gone by.
Visitors who skip the Tianfeng Gorge and the Northern Qi Great Wall can continue along the trail into the heart of the mountains. Here, dense greenery provides a refreshing respite even on the hottest summer days; occasional outcrops of bizarre rock formations spark the imagination; and the air is pure and crisp, tinged with the subtle aromas of patchouli and mugwort—every breath carries the very essence of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Limutai has long been celebrated as a “painting of secluded landscapes, a legendary realm of Limutai.” The higher you climb, the more tranquil and profound the scenery becomes. As you stroll along the path, you’ll often hear the rustling of leaves in the breeze and the faint chirps of insects and birds drifting from who knows where. And scattered throughout the woods, squirrels peek out from their hiding places, occasionally darting into view to delight visitors with an unexpected little surprise.
