On July 27, 2016, the “Tencent ‘Source Ecology’ Regional Smart Innovation Media Influence Tianjin Summit” was successfully held at The St. Regis Tianjin. Wang Yun, Director of the Cyberspace Administration of the Tianjin Municipal Committee, along with Tencent’s General Manager of Regional Business and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tencent News, Ge Qumang, attended the event. “Internet Plus” is emerging as a new engine for China’s economic transformation and upgrading. Leveraging its strong regional influence, Tencent continues to extend its operations into cities across the country, thereby bolstering local economic development. In the era of dual screens, how can we unravel the complexities of the internet ecosystem? To explore the future direction of “Internet Plus,” address the challenges facing Tianjin’s digital landscape, and reshape the broader internet‑driven development paradigm, the Tencent “Source Ecosystem” Regional Smart Innovation Media Influence Summit was convened. The summit featured three key components: the release of the Tianjin Internet Index, the launch of Tencent Dayan Network and the “Source Initiative,” and an “Internet Plus Tourism” forum.

The “Internet Plus” Index is based on genuine big data. At this summit, Dr. Meng Zhaoli, Chief Economist at the Tencent Research Institute, presented the “Tianjin ‘Internet Plus’ Index 2016” report and engaged in an in-depth discussion with attendees on how to better seize the opportunities of the “Internet Plus” era, thereby supporting and empowering the transformation and upgrading of government services, people’s livelihoods, and various industries in the context of the new normal.

The “Tianjin ‘Internet Plus’ Index 2016” report—compiled on the basis of vast amounts of big data—provides a comprehensive snapshot of Tianjin’s online economy, quantifying its digital GDP and highlighting how the “Internet Plus” strategy has been implemented in the city over the past year. Currently, Tencent QQ boasts 877 million monthly active accounts, while WeChat has reached 762 million active users. With such an enormous user base, what are the preferences of Tianjin’s internet users, and how do these preferences shape their behavior? At the event, Mr. Zhao Fusong, Director of Regional Business at Tencent, shared Tencent’s big‑data findings—the Tianjin User Profile. The report offers a detailed analysis and synthesis of Tianjin’s internet users, providing valuable insights that can help businesses refine their marketing strategies, evaluate campaign performance, optimize product operations, and enhance service quality.
