Good news, good news!!!
Limutai has been designated as one of the first forest‑wellness practitioner‑recommended practice sites in 2020.
Going forward, as we welcome tourists for eco‑wellness tours, we’ll feel even more confident.
Why do you say that?
Let’s start by learning about forest therapy, a health‑management practice that leverages the natural environment of forests. At its core, it involves engaging in restorative activities such as quiet contemplation and leisurely walks, all within specific forest settings and with the use of forest‑derived products, with the aim of enhancing both physical and mental well‑being.
Forest therapy comprises three essential components: an assessment-based forest‑therapy environment; medically validated therapeutic programs; and qualified forest therapists.
Now, the environment at Limutai meets the requirements for forest therapy!
As a national forest park, Limutai boasts a quintessential northern Chinese pristine secondary forest ecosystem that dates back to the Tertiary period of the Cenozoic Era, some 70 million years ago. With a forest coverage rate exceeding 90%, it is the closest remaining stretch of primeval forest to the people of Tianjin.
Lush forests release high concentrations of negative oxygen ions, which, like vitamins in food, both enhance bodily functions and help soothe tense nerves.
Just how many negative oxygen ions are there at Limutai? The monitoring device is the best judge:
Since 2013, Limutai has maintained a negative oxygen ion monitoring system that provides real-time measurements of the air’s negative oxygen ion concentration within the scenic area.
According to preliminary monitoring and statistical analysis, the average concentration of negative air ions at Limutai is 1,600 ions per cubic centimeter, with the highest reading recorded at 8:00 a.m. at 20,000 ions per cubic centimeter—more than 20 times the levels observed in the urban areas of Beijing and Tianjin.
Limumai features two health-and-wellness trails, each corresponding to one of the original, pristine nature‑based walking paths.
The first forest walking trail is 2,200 meters long; the second Butterfly Spring walking trail is 1,100 meters long.
Both trails are wooden boardwalks, built alongside the stream and through the forest, seamlessly blending with nature.
The health-and-wellness trail winds and spirals along the contours of the mountain, its path both meandering and secluded. As you stroll through it, you’ll encounter vegetation at every level—towering trees, low‑lying shrubs, climbing vines, and delicate lichens—collectively forming a richly layered yet orderly ecological space that invites you to savor the quiet delights of forest exploration.
Wander slowly through it, blending yourself into the layered canopy of trees, listening to the soft patter of footsteps and breathing in the crisp, fresh air. As you walk, you’ll delight your mind and body, strengthen your physique, and savor the unhurried, carefree rhythm of a leisurely life.
This is the fundamental environment in which forest therapy is practiced at Limutai. Of course, forest therapy also involves deep engagement with nature, which relies on the expert guidance of a forest therapist; and Limutai’s pristine forest setting provides the essential foundation for all such activities.
Green trees surround you like an ocean; under the sun, you squint and take a deep breath of the fresh scent of grass. In the distance, a clear birdcall awakens all your senses, gently restoring the vitality of life’s very beginning… This is the power of the forest. Welcome to Límùtái for an immersive experience.
