“Cascading waterfalls and gushing springs ascend to the heavens through narrow crevices, while towering peaks vie for splendor amid boundless forests. To the south lies Hubei’s Shennongjia, and to the north, Tianjin’s Limutai.” Dear friends, welcome—join me as we step into this earthly landscape of otherworldly beauty: Limutai!
Since time immemorial, there has been the saying: “Mountains are the backbone, and water is the soul.” When you come to Limutai, you can not only marvel at its majestic, towering peaks, but also follow the streams in search of hidden charms. Along the way, spring waters tinkle softly—sometimes murmuring lowly, sometimes flowing briskly, and at times roaring and rushing forth—a scene truly worthy of these words: “A clear brook winds around the mountains; as the path turns and twists, forest birds chirp; wild blossoms bloom in vibrant hues with the passing sun and moon; and white clouds drift by, leisurely and carefree.” Nature’s boundless creativity has painted for you a breathtaking landscape of Limutai, a masterpiece born of the earth itself! And as one poem beautifully captures the essence of Limutai: “Clear waters flow beneath verdant hills; the mountains stand like a painted screen, and people seem like immortals. If an immortal were to walk within this painting, each step would reveal a new vista, a world beyond worlds!”
The exquisite peaks, the tranquil pools, and the lush vegetation of Limutai all eloquently reveal its unique natural charm. This area is an integral part of Jixian National Geopark, showcasing the quintessential landforms of quartzite peak forests and canyons. Towering summits rise in endless undulations, their sheer cliffs standing like a living wall. The Heavenly Rift, steep and precipitous, seems to lead straight to the heavens; reaching its summit evokes the profound sense that diligence is richly rewarded. Wuzhishan, majestic and awe‑inspiring, stands tall and proud, its five “fingers” seemingly lifting the sky. And at Fenglin Rock‑Painting Ridge, layers upon layers of pictorial art cascade between heaven and earth—mountains and woods become brushstrokes, while clear streams pour forth as ink. Scholars, artists, and experts alike are captivated, lingering long after they’ve left, their hearts still drawn back to this timeless landscape.
Limumai is a breathtaking panorama, where every step reveals a scene, each scene is like a painting, and within the paintings lies emotion and meaning—where nature and sentiment blend seamlessly into one harmonious whole. Especially remarkable is Limumai’s pristine water: “After a night of rain in the mountains, cascading waterfalls hang everywhere.” The tranquil, mirror‑like lake surfaces and the roaring, tumbling torrents together create a dynamic aquatic world. As the ancients said, “A noble person cannot help but gaze upon water”—for water embodies the highest virtue, and great virtue carries all things. The gentle, emerald‑green springs of Limumai will instantly awaken in you a profound sense of life’s ultimate truth. This crisp, invigorating springwater nurtures an abundance of flora and fauna, earning Limumai the well‑deserved reputation as a “green treasure house” and a “special‑gene bank.” With forest coverage exceeding 90%, the park is home to a rich tapestry of regional plant species—from tropical and subtropical to temperate, warm‑temperate, and even cold‑zone varieties. Among them, more than 1,000 species across over 130 families are under national protection, and over a dozen have been listed in the IUCN Red List. Adding to its allure are countless climbing vines that weave and entwine throughout, crafting a distinctive tropical rainforest landscape—so celebrated by scholars and experts that it has been dubbed “Tianjin’s Shennongjia, the tropical rainforest of the North.” Limumai has become a premier field‑study site for Tianjin’s School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and its School of Landscape Architecture, as well as a favored location for on‑site sketching and plein‑air painting by students from Tianjin Urban Construction University and the Academy of Calligraphy and Painting. It is also among the first ecological‑cultural education bases in China—and the very first in Tianjin. Here, works by photographers, painters, writers, and specialists converge, weaving a vibrant cultural heritage that underscores Limumai’s bright, harmonious future.
The fresh, vibrant hues of Limutai, coupled with its warm and romantic ambiance, will let you truly experience a earthly paradise where greenery and natural beauty coexist, and azure skies mingle with crisp, refreshing air!
Poetry is a formless painting, and painting is a poem imbued with emotion; poetry dwells within the landscape, while feeling resides in the art.
