Limutai hosted the 2016 National Mass Mountain Climbing and Fitness Conference, creating a new integrated experience that blends sports and tourism.

With the starting gun, thousands of runners surged from the starting line, marching in a mighty procession toward the mountains and forests. Each one was full of spirit and brimming with energy. Their pink race jerseys made their vibrant figures shine even brighter, blending into a winding sea of red that, together with the autumn hues of yellow and green, created the most beautiful scene this fall at Limutai.

On October 22, the “2016 National Mass Mountain Climbing and Fitness Conference” was held at Limutai, bringing together more than 2,000 outdoor sports enthusiasts from across the country and sparking a nationwide fitness boom.

Among the participants were robust young adults, middle-aged individuals, sprightly seniors, and lively children. Competing in single‑person, mixed‑gender, and family teams, they showcased their skills regardless of age—each group proving equally formidable.

A few gray-haired elderly men completed the 10-kilometer course in just a few dozen minutes. One of them, still eager for more at the finish line, kept running downhill—by the time he’d covered another kilometer, the main pack had only just arrived. His robust physique left even the younger runners admiringly bowing their heads.

There were also several teenagers who emerged as dark horses in this race. At first, they’d only joined for fun, trekking through the woods with their parents—but before they knew it, they had nabbed some impressive placements. Some even outran the adults, crossing the finish line well ahead of time to wait for their moms and dads.

Moreover, a significant number of participants come from various mountaineering clubs; they are thoroughly at ease with such events, and whether in terms of gear, gait, or mental outlook, they consistently add a strikingly positive presence to the competing teams.

On the day of the mountain-climbing event, Li Mutai was graced with a crisp, post‑rain clear sky—high heavens and refreshing air, with wisps of pale white clouds drifting lazily. The air was filled with a crisp, invigorating scent, while the leaves in the woods turned from yellow to crimson, exuding the rich, deep‑autumn charm that left visitors spellbound.

As everyone enjoyed the exhilarating race, they also took in the scenic area’s enchanting autumn hues—quite a different kind of fun from their usual runs and workouts.

The vast expanse of sky and earth, the vibrant mountains and forests, and the crisp, pure air seem to infuse body and mind with a magical vitality. From within to without, everyone radiates renewed vigor; from head to toe, they brim with energy—experiences that no competition on the playing field can ever deliver: a primal release of untamed spirit.

This year’s event also serves as the Tianjin Mountain Sports Games and the second Lìmùtái Mountain Climbing Championships, featuring a diverse array of activities. In addition to the public mountain-climbing event on the 22nd, two professional competitions—the mountain bike uphill race and the trail running race—will kick off with great enthusiasm on the 23rd.

Among the events, the mountain‑bike uphill race was the real crowd‑pleaser: more than 70 riders pedaled 8 kilometers of steep, scenic trails, then hiked another 2 kilometers to reach the finish line. Along the way, their stylish silhouettes and expert riding skills drew countless onlookers, with many even pulling out their phones to snap photos and share them on social media.

During the day, the participants trekked together through the vibrant forests of Limutai, shedding sweat as they embraced sport and showcased their health and vitality. At night, under a sky ablaze with stars, they lit bonfires, played music, and gathered around the flames to sing and dance joyfully. From the elderly to the youngest children, every cheerful face was glowing red in the firelight, while laughter and merriment echoed across the hills until, long after dark, they finally dispersed, still reluctant to part.

Today, an increasing number of residents are eager to connect with nature, venture into the mountains and countryside, and engage in mountain‑based recreational and fitness activities. The Mountain Climbing Festival is a new “sports + tourism” model that Lìmùtái has developed to better meet the public’s growing demand for the integration of sports and travel. Combining spectacle, hands‑on experience, practicality, and fun, it not only helps unlock the scenic area’s full development potential but also offers participants an unparalleled leisure‑and‑sporting experience.
