If you’re looking for something that can instantly infuse an ordinary person with an ethereal, otherworldly aura, the answer is none other than yoga. A group of gajas, clad in white, stretched out freely on the forest floor, their ethereal, otherworldly grace utterly enchanting. A few days ago, Li Mutai was graced with just such a scene: the seamless harmony between humanity and nature lent an added splendor to the mountains and waters.
On September 22, the second Tianjin City Mass Fitness Yoga Exhibition, Exchange, and Competition event of 2017 kicked off at the Limutai Scenic Area. This event is themed “The Charm of Fitness Yoga, the Beauty of Tourism and Leisure,” leveraging Limutai’s unique natural and cultural assets to establish a platform for cultural exchange in fitness yoga between Tianjin’s urban area and the scenic destination of Limutai. It aims to foster the orderly development of fitness yoga and to invigorate the nationwide fitness movement.
Mr. Ma Baoqi, Director of the Tianjin Social Sports Center; Mr. Shi Min, Director of the Sports Department of the Jinwan Evening News; Mr. Zhao Yougang, Deputy Manager of the Limutai Scenic Area; Mr. Jiang Jinggang, General Manager of Tianjin Xinmei Advertising Company; Mr. Sun Hongwei, General Manager of Tianjin Panshan Ski Resort; Mr. Jia Hongxin, General Manager of the Sports Camp; Mr. Tian Baolin, General Manager of the Tianjin Sanyuan Yikang Cultural and Sports Center; and Ms. Zhang Shuang, a member of the National Fitness Yoga Promotion Committee, all attended the event.
The event unfolded in two parts: in the morning, Ms. Zhang Shuang led dozens of practitioners in a stunning demonstration of classic yoga postures on the grass—breath‑focused stretches, harmonizing body and spirit, and expansive, far‑reaching gazes that created a truly majestic scene. In the afternoon, a yoga competition unfolded with graceful elegance amidst the lush greenery and serene waters, as top‑tier yogis took turns showcasing their skills, each performance building to an exhilarating climax. Between sessions, Ms. Zhang Shuang also guided a small group of practitioners deep into the wooded hills of Limutai, where they experienced the tranquil, peaceful essence of forest yoga—a moment of profound solitude and connection with nature.
At the event, there were seasoned yoga practitioners as well as beginners, ranging from middle-aged individuals in their forties and fifties to young adults in their twenties and thirties. Despite their varying ages and levels of experience, under the guidance of the yoga instructor, every participant engaged wholeheartedly in this harmonious practice of body and mind.
Participants note that the unique appeal of outdoor yoga lies in its ability to let you listen to birdsong and the chirping of insects, breathe in fresh air, and embrace the vastness of the natural world. With each inhale and exhale, as you stretch and release tension, both body and mind sink into a state of calm and serenity—experiences that indoor yoga simply cannot match.
On this day at Limutai, the sunlight was bright yet not blinding, and a gentle breeze carried a faint coolness across the cheeks. Beneath a crystal‑clear, azure sky stretched an endless expanse of verdant hills and trees, while soft, velvety green grass spread out beneathfoot. Not far away, amid the woods, wildflowers were in full bloom, and with a deep breath, one could catch a delicate, fragrant scent in the air.
People practicing yoga on the grass are like white lotuses blooming beneath the blue sky—gentle and serene, their composure unshaken. Accompanied by ethereal music, they stretch, twist, and breathe; their supple, graceful movements flow as effortlessly as clouds drifting across the water, exuding a quiet, enigmatic beauty that defies description.
Yoga is deeply connected to all living beings; whether in the mountains or on the grasslands, every deep breath and every yoga pose is a communion with nature. With each inhale and exhale, stretch; with each stretch and extension, relax. Breathe in the fresh, natural air, and release the stale, accumulated waste from within. Let the gentle breeze sweep away all your worries, leaving your heart clear and your body at ease. At this very moment, in this very place, the practitioner is like the sunlight of today—without dazzling brilliance, yet gentle and serene. In that gentleness, strength is fortified; in that stillness, concentration is deepened.
Welcome all who love yoga and cherish movement to unwind amidst the serene landscapes of Limutai, blending body and mind with the mountains and forests, entrusting your worries to the grassy fields, surrendering your breath to the gentle breeze, inhaling the vital energy of all things, and savoring nature’s nourishment.
