Cuckoo Mini-Encyclopedia
Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a cuckoo bird that cried day and night, its mournful calls staining the mountain flowers with blood, hence the name.
Azaleas typically bloom in spring, with each cluster bearing 2 to 6 flowers. Their corollas are funnel-shaped and come in hues of red, pale pink, apricot‑red, and white, creating a dazzling display. As one of China’s ten traditional famous flowers, they are often hailed as the “Xi Shi of the floral world.”
Wild rhododendrons are commonly found in mountainous shrublands or beneath pine forests at elevations of 500–1,200 meters.
The Liumutai rhododendron is a purely natural, wild species that grows without any human intervention, clustering in groups on hillsides at elevations of 600 to 900 meters and thriving in shady conditions.
The language of the rhododendron is “forever yours.”
